Dominican solidarity campaign urges people to vote against the blockade of Cuba

Santo Domingo, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba reaffirmed today its strongest rejection of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against that Caribbean nation, which it describes as a “sister.”

Three days before the United Nations General Assembly debates and votes on the resolution calling for an end to the embargo, the Campaign urged member states to maintain their firm commitment to justice, respect for international law, and the dignity of the people.

In a statement provided to Prensa Latina, the group described this as “a true economic war that includes trade restrictions, financial pressure, and persecution against companies and countries that choose to maintain relations with the island.”

“The blockade harms the lives of the Cuban population and is the primary weapon used by successive U.S. administrations for more than six decades to damage Cuba economically and its development,” he said.

This unjust and criminal blockade directly affects the daily lives of the people, hinders the modernization of the island’s productive infrastructure, and limits the provision of essential services for social well-being, he warned.

The Cuban people, with exemplary heroism, have known how to defend their sovereignty and their right to self-determination, achievements achieved through the struggle and blood of thousands of worthy men and women, he added.

He pointed out that the United Nations (UN) has heard the blockade against Cuba on more than 30 occasions, and the international community has always voted overwhelmingly in favor of lifting it.

However, the United States continues to ignore the will of the people of the world, he denounced.

He maintained that if the majority of nations vote in favor of Cuba on October 29, as has historically happened, “that sovereign decision must be respected, otherwise the moral and political authority of the UN would be compromised before humanity.”

Cuba Accuses the U.S. Of Coercing Countries

FM Rodriguez blames Washington of using fake arguments to maintain the economic blockade.

October 23, 2025 (teleSUR) On Wednesday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez accused the United States of intimidating third countries to vote against the resolution that Cuba presents every year at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to lift the U.S. blockade against his nation.

He asserted that Cuban government has reliable information on the daunting U.S. carries against countries in Latin America and Europe. In recent years, the non-binding resolution presented by Cuba has enjoyed widespread support among UN member states, with only the U.S. and Israel being against it.

According to Rodriguez, the U.S has attempted to coerce allied countries. Mechanisms such as visa deprivation, trade tariffs or repercussions among their private companies, have been used.

The Cuban diplomat also accused U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio of operating through emissaries to avoid support for the Cuban proposal.

The text reads, “Cuba denounces a ‘media poisoning campaign’ by the U.S. ahead of the UN vote against the blockade. Cuba has information about the ‘intimidating and deceptive pressure’ the U.S. government exerts on several states, especially in the Americas.”

Rodriguez mentioned that in letters met by the Cuban government, the U.S claims with “arguments that no one believes” that the island is a threat to international peace and security.

Despite this, the Foreign Minister remarked that the Cuban resolution will overcome with an overwhelming majority and that “It will be a great victory for the revolution.”

The UN General Assembly resolution 79/7 is scheduled to be debated and voted on October 28 and even though it has no practical effect, Cuba views the annual international support as a diplomatic victory.

Sri Lanka Solidarity condemns US attacks on Cuba

Colombo, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The Sri Lankan organization Bolivarian Solidarity today reaffirmed its strong condemnation of the United States’ attempt to subvert the UN vote on the Cuban resolution demanding an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade.

In a letter signed by its secretary, Jeewantha Jayatissa, and delivered to Prensa Latina, the Sri Lankan organization urged the global anti-imperialist community, friends of Cuba, and advocates of justice everywhere to stand united once again to defeat Washington’s attempts to sabotage the will of the international community.

He also called for reaffirming solidarity with the Cuban people and their Revolution.

He specified that international reports indicate the United States will again try to avoid, through pressure and blackmail, another resounding defeat at the United Nations when the 33rd annual vote on the Cuban resolution calling for an end to the genocidal siege takes place on October 28 and 29.

Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka recalled that last year the United Nations General Assembly again voted overwhelmingly—with 187 member states in favor—to lift the US embargo on Cuba, with only the United States and Israel voting against.

In this regard, he called on all peace-loving nations, organizations, and peoples of the world not to give in to such intimidation or deception.

As history has shown, “being an enemy of the United States is dangerous, but being a friend is deadly,” he warned.

He added that the history of countries destroyed after aligning themselves with U.S. interests is a stark warning to everyone.

Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka explained that the U.S. embargo, imposed shortly after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, has continued for more than six decades, despite overwhelming global opposition.

When comparing the United States and Cuba, the disparity in size, resources, and power is immense; however, the island remains a global example of dignity, equality, and social justice, values that the United States, despite its vast wealth, has failed to achieve, he noted.

The Sri Lankan organization added that the Cuban model of using its limited resources for the benefit of all its citizens stands in stark contrast to the US system, which prioritizes power and profit.

Unable to accept the success of a socialist model based on solidarity and equality, U.S. imperialism has repeatedly sought to destabilize Cuba through sanctions, disinformation, and external aggression, he stressed.

Cuba, along with Venezuela and other nations resisting imperial domination, continues to share valuable lessons of resilience and sovereignty with the world, he emphasized.

Mexico Rejects U.S. Pressure on Cuba Fuel Shipments

October 22, 2025 — Belly of the Beast

Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum last week defended her country’s oil shipments to Cuba, which she characterized as “humanitarian aid.”

Rep. Carlos Giménez (R.FL) recently accused Sheinbaum of “propping up” the Cuban government with oil shipments, which have increased this year. Giménez said her “pathetic actions” could jeopardize the free trade agreement between Mexico, Canada and the U.S., which is currently being renegotiated.

Sheinbaum dismissed Giménez’s comments: “The U.S. knows that Mexico is an independent, free and sovereign country and that our decisions are sovereign.”

Mexican oil has become a lifeline for Cuba as it navigates a deep economic and fuel crisis.

Sheinbaum also praised the Cuban doctors serving on a mission in Mexico despite a U.S. pressure campaign to coerce foreign governments to end this type of medical cooperation with Cuba.

Sheinbaum’s comments come on the heels of her recent announcement that she would not attend next month’s Summit of the Americas in the Dominican Republic, following the news that Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua would be excluded as a result of U.S. pressure.

Colombian president Gustavo Petro also announced he will boycott the summit.

The genocide against the Cuban people in denouncing its civil society

The Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU) will hold, on October 24, the 21st Forum of the Cuban Civil Society against the Blockade, a space for denunciation and reflection on the effects of this policy that violates human rights and hinders national development

Author: Prensa Latina  october 21, 2025

The Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU) will hold, on October 24, the 21st Forum of the Cuban Civil Society against the Blockade, a space for denunciation and reflection on the effects of this policy that violates human rights and hinders national development.

The meeting, which will take place in the context of the upcoming vote at the UN against the economic siege, will delve into the human, social and economic consequences that this measure generates in the daily life of the Cuban people.

Recently, the member of the Political Bureau and chancellor, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, presented a report that quantifies the effects of the blockade in the last year at $7,556.1 million, a conservative estimate that does not include psychological damage to the population.

For more than six decades, the blockade has caused cumulative losses of over $170 billion, a figure that demonstrates the genocidal nature of this long-term policy of economic suffocation.

Rodríguez Parrilla emphasized that more than 80% of Cubans were born and lived under the effects of the blockade, a tangible reality that manifests itself in the daily deprivations faced by families. The Forum therefore stands as a space for mobilization to demand an immediate end to this unjust and illegal policy.

‘I love Trump but don’t think it’s fair’: Pro-Trump Cubans revolt against White House

By Alexander Willis, Raw Story — October 19, 2025

A number of pro-Trump Cuban Americans are revolting against the White House’s immigration policy after their own lives have been uprooted by President Donald Trump’s travel ban on Cuba, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

One such Cuban American is Arely Díaz Leal, a resident of Tampa, Florida, who close to a decade ago applied for her son to be allowed to immigrate to the United States. Leal’s son has still not been granted a visa, and following the Trump administration’s travel ban on Cuba – purportedly implemented to protect the United States from terrorism – her prospects of reuniting with her son have grown even less likely.

“I love Trump,” said Leal, who voted for Trump in 2024, speaking with the Post. “But I don’t think it’s fair.”

While not explicitly pro-Trump, another Cuban American pushing back against the White House is Leymi Reyes Figueredo, who immigrated legally from Cuba to Miami, Florida in 2022, but left her now 15-year-old daughter behind. Having planned to reunite in Miami this year, Figeredo was left devastated after learning in August that her daughter’s visa had been denied.

“I understand why you have to protect the country, [but] how is a child a terrorist?” Figueredo said, speaking with the Post.

The United States has historically granted special treatment to Cuban immigrants, granting them “preferential treatment unlike that afforded to any other immigrant or refugee group” such as “immediate access to federal safety-net benefits,” a policy critics have dubbed “Cuban privilege,” motivated in large part due to U.S. efforts to undermine the Cuban government.

The United States has been hostile toward the Cuban government since the overthrowing the U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, who permitted Cuba to become what Australian history resource Alpha History dubbed a “virtual slave state,” allowing its resources and infrastructure to be largely “owned by American companies.”

However, that special treatment appears to have come to an end under the second Trump administration, leading to not only a revolt of sorts among some pro-Trump Cuban Americans, but lawsuits, including one filed by Juan Jesús Rodríguez Rojas, whose daughter and grandson were denied visas due to Trump’s travel ban.

That lawsuit faltered, however, after some Cuban Americans were torn between wanting to push back against the ban and their admiration for Trump.

“I expected a lot of Cubans to participate in this lawsuit,” said Curtis Morrison, Rojas’ attorney who filed the lawsuit on his behalf. “At the end of the day, they were just: ‘No, we don’t want to sue Trump.’”

Cuba Backs Venezuela against US Threats

Havana, Oct 15 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced the danger posed by a US military aggression against Venezuela and reiterated Cuba’s unwavering support of the sister South American nation.

On his X account, the Minister expressed his support for the Venezuelan government led by Nicolás Maduro and called on the international community to mobilize to stop the US attack and preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.

Rodríguez Parrilla indicated that he presented this claim Wednesday at the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (Mnoal), in Uganda.

“Faced with the danger of military aggression, we reiterate unwavering and total support for Venezuela and the People’s and Military Union, led by legitimate President Nicolás Maduro. We call on the international community to mobilize to stop the attack and preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a #ZoneOfPeace.”

In his speech, the Cuban minister pointed out that Washington imposes unilateral coercive measures against developing nations with of destabilization and domination purposes, which constitutes a threat to international stability.

He rejected the military deployment of the United States in the Caribbean, presented as an anti-drug operation, considering it a violation of International Law and a risk to regional peace.

He also condemned the actions by the government of that North American country against the United Nations Organization and multilateral agreements indispensable to face global challenges.

The Kampala meeting takes place in a context of growing international tensions which, according to the Minister, reinforces the need to defend multilateralism as a way to face common challenges.

The Cuban Minister began a tour of Africa on October 9, with visits to Togo, Benin and Ethiopia, before his participation in the Non-Aligned ministerial meeting in Uganda.
