Blanes, Catalonia, aligns itself with Cuba

Madrid, June 26 (Prensa Latina) The Blanes City Council in Catalonia approved a motion rejecting the United States blockade against Cuba and any attempt at military aggression, it was learned today.

The Catalan city, in northeastern Spain, known as the Gateway to the Costa Brava, advanced the initiative with the votes of Comuns, CUP, PSC, ERC, BlanesSí and Grup Blanes, political organizations in solidarity with Cuba.

The Casal d’Amistat Català Cubà Julio Trigo and the Cuban Association «Soc de Cubà, soy popular», were in charge of presenting the motion.

It includes a commitment to name a public space after José Martí, National Hero of Cuba, to strengthen cultural ties.

It was also learned that the conservative People’s Party (PP) and the far-right Vox voted against it, while the right-wing Junts and an unaffiliated councilor abstained.

The institutional agreement includes a commitment to support citizen-led humanitarian aid campaigns by social organizations.
