Washington, August 4 (Prensa Latina) A kit of solar panels from the United States is being added today to the efforts of the Prensa Latina Agency to change its energy matrix, thanks to the initiative of friends in solidarity with Cuba in California.
Aware of the need to maintain the vitality of Cuban media, affected, like the entire country, by the intensification of the United States government’s blockade and the energy embargo imposed by the Donald Trump administration, press supporters in Los Angeles raised the necessary funds to achieve their goal.
The idea, as one of the participants in this solidarity project commented, is to try to reach other media outlets in Cuba with the solar panels in the future.
From Prensa Latina, the agency founded by Fidel Castro on June 16, 1959, with more than thirty offices around the world, came gratitude for this gesture of support at a time when Washington’s measures against the island are intensifying and threats of military aggression are increasing.
At the end of January, the executive order signed by Trump imposed a blockade that prevented fuel from reaching the Caribbean country.
Speaking at the VII Ordinary Session of the X Legislature of the National Assembly, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced that only one ship carrying oil had entered Cuba in the last seven months.
This serious energy crisis, the head of state warned, is linked to the attempt at economic strangulation imposed by the United States with the aim of “provoking a social explosion” in the Caribbean nation.
“The economic and social implications of this collective punishment are humanly unbearable,” Díaz-Canel wrote on his social media account.
So far in 2026, Cuba has suffered six total blackouts due to the disconnection of the National Energy System (SEN).
