European meeting of solidarity with Cuba described as a success

Paris, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), described the 19th European Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba as a success, due to its broad attendance and the depth of the discussions.

Gonazalez, during the closing remarks at the forum, held over the weekend at the headquarters of the French Communist Party (PCF), highlighted the participation of some 300 delegates from nearly 30 countries, noting that attendance was limited by the capacity of the venue.

The hero of the Republic of Cuba expressed gratitude for the organization of the event and for the warm reception from the PCF. He emphasized the proposals made at the meeting, which called for the lifting of the U.S. blockade and the removal of Cuba from Washington’s unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

“I thank each one of you. I am sure that you will take what was discussed and agreed upon back to your associations,” he stated.

Regarding the action plan outlined in the final declaration of the solidarity forum, Gonzalez expressed confidence that it would strengthen support for Cuba and its Revolution in Europe and around the world.

“We have a collective responsibility to implement these agreements,” said the ICAP president, who underscored the importance of pairing political solidarity with Cuba with economic assistance, given the consequences of the U.S. blockade.

Fidel Castro is alive in Cuba’s battles for sovereignty

Havana, November 25 (Radio Habana Cuba) — Cuba today remembers the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, eight years after his physical disappearance, while reaffirming his imprint in the permanent battle to defend national sovereignty and independence.

The anniversary comes amid the country’s extraordinary efforts to recover after the recent ravages of two hurricanes and several earthquakes, which highlight the cohesion, patriotic commitment and the value of solidarity that Fidel Castro brought to the process of transformations initiated in 1959 under his leadership.

Such efforts also take place in the context of the updating of the Cuban economic model, in a scenario of unprecedented intensification of the United States’ policy of blockade and financial persecution, and the media war promoted from that country with the purpose of subverting the revolutionary process on the island.

Hence, beyond the image of the bearded man in his olive-green uniform that turned Fidel Castro into a symbol of Cuban and universal rebellion, his legacy is being strengthened throughout the country these days through productive tasks and conversations about his life, work and thought, among other activities.

This day, the steps of the University of Havana will be the site of the youth’s tribute to the revolutionary leader, through a political-cultural evening that will celebrate the validity of his example in the daily struggles of the Cuban people.

For their part, the Cuban Workers’ Union and the Young Communist League dedicated a national day of voluntary work to Fidel Castro last Saturday, which commemorated the 65th anniversary of the first call for this initiative aimed at promoting productive tasks and fostering labor awareness.

Journalists, officials, workers and people who had a direct relationship with the revolutionary leader also told anecdotes to the new generations about these meetings that marked their lives and allowed them to see the real dimensions and magnetism of someone who is considered one of the great protagonists of the history and politics of the 20th century.

Amid the tensions that mark international relations today, the position of the Cuban Revolution in defense of the just causes of the world against the pretensions of the great powers to perpetuate their hegemony, and the need for peace, is also reaffirmed these days.

The day before, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez recalled on the social network X Fidel Castro’s vision on this subject with a phrase from the Cuban leader:

«We are enemies of war, and it is the imperialists who impose wars on humanity.  And the stronger they feel, the more dangerous they will be.   And for that reason, every people that fights for its sovereignty and for its independence, defends peace».

Paris, November 24 (ACN)– The 19th European Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, based in Paris, closed its first sessions on Saturday with strong denunciations of the United States blockade of the island and its inclusion in the spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The delegates – more than 300 from 28 countries – ratified the decision to continue the defense of the Caribbean nation by intensifying political activities, material collaboration, local cooperation projects and the promotion of actions in the legislative field.

Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), denounced that the economic blockade not only attacks the Cuban people but also violates the sovereign right of all countries to freely interact with Cuba.

Medicuba Europe’s contribution to the island is valued at 30 million euros invested in medicines, pacemakers, the purchase of millions of syringes and supplies for the pharmaceutical industry, among other items.

This was announced by the president of that organization, Dr. Franco Cavalli, who specified that he will continue to help the Cuban health care system because of its example in the right of the people to health and its internationalism.

Havana, November 22 (Radio Habana Cuba) — Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed his appreciation for the help offered by several Caribbean countries after the damage caused by the two cyclones and two earthquakes that affected several provinces of the country.

Through the social network X, Rodríguez wrote: “Your solidarity support is an example of the principles of friendship and cooperation that promote our historic relations.”

Caribbean nations such as Mexico and Venezuela, and others such as Russia, Japan, Norway, Spain and Slovakia have sent donations, either individually or through initiatives coordinated by multilateral organizations or Non-Governmental Organizations.

Venezuela sent a significant shipment of more than 200 tons of humanitarian aid on Thursday, including 54,000 items distributed in more than 20 containers. Previously, on November 6, it had sent another 100 tons, with construction materials and supplies for primary care, among others.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil said: “We have received Cuban solidarity at all times.  The Cuban people and their government have always been there to support us in literacy, in medical and technical missions, in agriculture and food.”

He also assured that the South American nation will always support “sister Cuba in the context of the strategic bilateral alliance that we have and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).”

On the other hand, Spain sent nine tons, while Japan contributed 160,000 dollars in basic necessities.  The European Union, in collaboration with the United Nations, was one of the first to act with the shipment of 94 tons of medicines and essential supplies.

Meanwhile, Norway, through the UN Central Fund for Emergency Response, allocated 600,000 dollars, and Slovakia contributed 40 tons of powdered milk through the World Food Program.

The latest weather events and two earthquakes affected several regions of the country.  Their impacts add to the already complicated reality of the Caribbean country, caused by the coercive measures of the unilateral commercial, economic and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government.

U.S. blockade hinders Cuba’s sustainable development

U.S. blockade hinders Cuba’s sustainable development

By María Josefina Arce.

Nov 22 (Radio Habana Cuba) The blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than six decades affects the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to achieve a balance between economic progress, social welfare and preservation of the environment.

The economic, financial and commercial sanctions reach all sectors of life and society, hindering the country’s National Development Plan and negatively affecting the quality of life of Cubans.

This has been denounced by the Caribbean nation in various international forums and was reiterated in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, by the Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, Armando Rodríguez Batista, during his speech at the Ministerial Table on Just Transition of the Program of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

From the point of view of environmental protection, the economic siege goes against the environmental strategy of the largest of the Antilles, which is highly vulnerable to climate change due to its insularity.

The hostile policies of successive U.S. administrations hinder the acquisition of advanced technologies needed to implement the adaptation and mitigation measures included in the Task Life, State Plan to Confront Climate Change.

Likewise, as the Cuban authorities have denounced, financial opportunities are reduced because it is not possible to carry out transactions with banks with interests in US territory.

In addition, the United States has opposed Cuba’s access to international financing for environmental protection projects such as Mi Costa, which aims to strengthen coastal resilience in the face of climate change.

This initiative is expected to restore more than 15,000 hectares of coastal ecosystems, mainly mangrove forests and marsh grasslands, which will provide a natural barrier against strong winds and flooding.

The blockade also hinders exchanges with U.S. scientists and access to specialized information on digital websites.

Despite the U.S. siege, Cuba remains committed to sustainable development, which includes improving the living conditions of all its citizens and preserving the environment.

US Congresswoman says she will never give up friendship with Cuba

Washington, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) US Congresswoman Maxine Waters affirmed that she will never give up her friendship with Cuba and reiterated her continuous calling for the elimination of the blockade that currently causes suffering to that nation.

“I began to call for the lifting of the embargo (blockade) some few years ago, and I know we could not achieve it, but we must never stop trying,” Waters told Prensa Latina in this capital.

I am a friend of Cuba and have visited that country several times, the Democratic representative from California stated at the end of a meeting at Havana’s diplomatic mission in Washington, with members of the US Agricultural Coalition for Cuba.

Waters, also a member of the House of Representatives, added, “I think we need to focus on what we could do for the relationship between the two nations.”

The chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 1997 to 1998 stated that they need to ensure that US agricultural products reach Cuba. “So I will never give up my friendship with Cuba, and I look forward to my next visit.”

In welcoming the members of the farm coalition at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters here on Thursday evening, Charge d’Affaires Lianys Torres said Washington’s policy toward Havana “continues to be based on the prohibition of regular trade between companies of both countries.”

Torres said: “The commercial, financial, and economic blockade, Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, and Cuba’s inclusion in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list not only affect our economy but also have a direct impact on the livelihood of the Cuban people.
