Miguel Díaz-Canel returns home to Cuba after historic day in Venezuela

Havana, January 11 (RHC)– After an unforgettable day in Venezuela, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, returned to Cuba at dawn today.

The president himself announced it on his account on the social network X, where he said that he was accompanying “brother” Nicolás Maduro in his swearing-in as constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic.

“We are already in the Homeland, with all the emotions of an unforgettable day in #Venezuela, accompanying brother Nicolás Maduro in his swearing-in as constitutional President and his brave people who sing and dance their victory over the fascist conspiracy.”

Representatives of more than 100 delegations attended this swearing-in ceremony at the Venezuelan National Assembly, where Maduro Moros said: I come from the people, I am from the people and my power emanates from history and from the people. The power that I represent and carry belongs to the people and I owe myself to the people.

With his words he criticized those who submit to the empire, which he considered to be making pacts with the devil. Today we have people and we have a Homeland, he said.

Then in a ceremony at the Military Academy of the Bolivarian Army, which was also attended by Díaz-Canel, the Venezuelan Head of State led an act of recognition and the reaffirmation of his figure as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

The dignitary said he was proud to occupy that position, because the people have placed him in his responsibilities.

In his speech he considered his swearing-in as President to be a great victory for Venezuelan democracy. “The power that I represent and carry belongs to the people and I owe myself to the people; it is not a man, it is not Maduro, it is a people that grows into a man,” he confirmed.

Cuba bets on solidarity and peace, ambassador to Argentina states

Buenos Aires, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) In times of hatred and war, Cuba is betting on love, solidarity and peace, Ambassador in Buenos Aires Pedro Pablo Prada said at a ceremony on the 66th anniversary of the Revolution.

In the meeting with diplomats, parliamentarians, members of the Solidarity Movement, Cuban residents here and graduates in Cuba, Prada called for “respect for the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law, first of all, and independence, sovereignty and self-determination of States.”

He noted that Cuba will continue to strengthen socialist democracy, the rights and guarantees of citizens, and will insist on fighting the battle against hegemonic ideologies and cultural colonization.

The ambassador denounced the consequences of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades, Cuba’s inclusion on a list of alleged sponsors of terrorism, and the intensification of the media campaign against the process initiated on January 1, 1959.

Prada also demanded the end to the genocide against Palestine and the expansionism of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

We defend Latin American and Caribbean unity in its great diversity, without exclusions or fratricidal aggression. We claim the right of Argentines to exercise their sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands (Falkland Islands) and the corresponding maritime territories. The friendship between our countries is fireproof, he added.

The ambassador pointed out that the freedom conquered by Cubans 66 years ago will be safeguarded as the most precious asset and defended to the last consequences.

The difficulties that my country faces are explained by the intensification of the silent war by the United States. The inclusion on the (State Sponsors of Terrorism – SSOT) list made the effects of the cruel blockade, the multiple crises that have plagued the world since 2008, worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, and two hurricanes and an earthquake that left more than 60,000 families homeless in November, more suffocating, he pointed out.

Media and networks only spread biased news. Few people know that just 20 days ago, more than 700,000 Cubans marched in Havana to protest against the attacks. Socialist Cuba resists and does so thanks to the heroic sacrifice, unity and dignity of its people, as well as due to international solidarity. We will never be alone, the diplomat added.

Prada went on to say that Cuba will continue to promote its development plans and the search for the greatest possible prosperity and social justice, and welcomed Cuba’s incorporation into the BRICS, which he considered part of promising initiatives.

Mexican President defends sovereignty of Venezuelan people

Mexico City, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced today that the ambassador to Venezuela will be present during the inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro and reiterated that the South American nation is sovereign.

“In the case of Venezuela, the Venezuelan ambassador will go, he will represent us there. (…) We defend our foreign policy, the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people. They are the ones who have to decide,” the president emphasized in her usual meeting with journalists.

“There should be no intervention in any way, but the people of Venezuela should decide,” stressed the dignitary, specifying that it is not just a personal opinion, because “as president, that is the foreign policy of our country.”

When asked about a supposed rearrangement of political forces in Latin America and a shift of the left, the head of the Executive considered that progressives in the region have a lot of strength and recognition.

“The Frente Amplio has just won in Uruguay and that is a sign that in a country where progressive forces did not govern, this force has just won,” he argued.

Maduro was sworn in as president of Venezuela for the 2025-2031 six-year term on Friday.

He said that this event expresses ‘the close and perfect brotherhood between Cubans and Venezuelans’.

Cubans warn that Donald Trump’s second term could be worse

The recent history of Cuba has shown that moments can be complex, but not insurmountable, as recently stated by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Havana, January 9 (Radio Habana Cuba) — On the occasion of the upcoming inauguration of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, the multiplatform news outlet teleSUR spoke with several Cubans, who agree that a second term for the former president in the White House would be worse for the Caribbean country in numerous areas.

The interviewed Cubans stated that they expect greater restrictions in the economic scenario, which will further affect the Cuban people, as they imply a worsening of the blockade and coercive and unilateral measures.

“Nothing good can be expected from him because he left some things pending in the previous term.” I imagine that with this one, it’s like saying it’s time for revenge, right? At least with the Cuba issue,” affirmed one of the interviewees.

Similarly, they highlighted that the appointment of the Republican Marco Rubio, a politician of Cuban origin, as Secretary of State could be very complicated from a diplomatic and economic standpoint, making it imperative for Cubans to organize themselves well.

The popular concern is supported by the opinion of experts on Cuba-United States relations, such as Cuban researcher Hasán Pérez Casabona, who warns about the imminent beginning of a stage of great complexity, as it is not a figure like Barack Obama, who blurred the face of imperialism and was a representative of the so-called smart power.

“Trump embodies the entire harshness of the drama of the history of capitalism and its prediction towards Latin America as a backyard, because he despises us, because he says we are places with indescribable words, because he talks about unimaginable gigantic deportations,” said Casabona, who also indicated that Trump’s arrival at the White House also represents “a challenge for Latin American unity and for the ability to establish alliances.”

For his part, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío stated that the Cuban government is concerned about “the effect that increased hostility from the United States could have on our economy and, in particular, the effect it could have on the standard of living of the population.”

“The Government of the United States has proven to be very powerful and has a highly effective destructive capacity to cause harm, and we, in addition to the measures we will take to protect the population, which we take in self-defense, know that we will be able to survive,” he emphasized in an interview with teleSUR.

Cuban history in recent years has shown that moments can be complex, but not insurmountable, as recently stated by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel during the march that took place in front of the United States embassy in Havana.

In that sense, the president specified that if the U.S. government persists in its idea of undermining Cuban sovereignty, it will only find rebellion and intransigence.

Thirty-eight generator sets are restored using Chinese replacement components

The components are part of the Chinese government’s initiative to provide Distributed Electric Generator Equipment and Spare Parts for Cuba

Havana, Jan 7 (RHC) Thirty-eight diesel-powered generator sets will be repaired and prepared for operation, with a total capacity of 53.8 megawatts, during the months of January and February.

According to Arles Luna Leiva, head of the Distributed Generation department at the Electrical Union, this initial delivery includes heaters, motors, and other parts required for the repair of the malfunctioning equipment.

These initial shipments, which were received in late December, are being distributed across the country, with the exception of Ciego de Ávila, Artemisa, and Mayabeque.

These provinces will be provided with the necessary components for the maintenance of their equipment in subsequent shipments, as they do not need the parts that were included in the initial delivery.

Luna confirmed that these components are part of the Chinese government’s initiative to provide Distributed Electric Generator Equipment and Spare Parts for Cuba.

Recently, upon the arrival of the initial shipment of assistance, Chinese ambassador to Cuba Hua Xin announced that additional shipments will be delivered via charter flights, commercial flights, or maritime transport in containers, thereby completing the delivery of the aid.

This will allow for the restoration of 400 megawatts of distributed generation capacity in the country.

The distributed generation systems that rely on diesel are experiencing substantial degradation, with a current operational rate of 36%, due to the depletion of stable funding sources and excessive use.

This occurs because they are intended to function for a maximum of four hours per day. However, in certain instances, they have been forced to operate for 24 hours per day due to the failure of alternative technologies. (Source: Granma)
