Russia is the third largest source of tourists to Cuba

Moscow, March 19 (Prensa Latina) Russia is currently the third largest source of tourists to Cuba, confirmed the First Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Caribbean nation, Jorge Alberto García, here today.

During the first two days of the Moscow International Tourism Fair, Mitt 2025, tour operators, agencies, travel agents, and airlines from the Eurasian giant have demonstrated their marked interest in Cuba, which is evident in Russia’s current third position as a source nation, the Cuban deputy head of tourism emphasized to Prensa Latina.

The official added that another topic discussed with their Russian counterparts is promoting the benefits of the Caribbean island’s entertainment industry, with the goal of promoting its exposure and dissemination through specialized communications companies, as well as in Russian media outlets.

García also praised the industry’s crucial role in the development and strengthening of the Cuban economy, expressing the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and its entities to achieving customer satisfaction in order to grow operations, thereby impacting the country’s revenue.

In this regard, Cristina León, Tourism Counselor at the Cuban Embassy in Russia, outlined another measure to maintain the rapid arrival of Russians to Cuba, especially in the eastern part of the country, particularly Santiago de Cuba.

The diplomat added that the so-called Hero City, the cradle of the Revolution, boasts a rich cultural and social heritage that will further attract clients from the Eurasian giant, which in 2024 extended its presence in Caribbean territory throughout the year.

León argued that MITT 2025 is also a showcase for inviting hundreds of attendees to participate in the next edition of the Cuban International Tourism Fair, scheduled for April 30 to May 3 in Havana.

The 31st Russian International Tourism and Hospitality Exhibition will run until March 20, with the goal of enabling the more than 700 companies present to offer their best products to the Russian market through unique business programs.

Grenada renounces US visa to support Cuba

Saint George, March 19 (Prensa Latina) Grenada’s Finance Minister, Dennis Cornwall, said today that he and other ministers would renounce their U.S. visas to support Cuba’s international medical missions.

Speaking to the Grenada Broadcasting Network, Cornwall acknowledged that as a graduate of a Cuban university, he has a moral obligation to that country and insisted that the Cuban medical personnel in Grenada are providing an “irreplaceable service.”

“I have always believed that we must put people above political identity, and my government has demonstrated that we are willing to go to extremes to keep our people safe,” he emphasized, referring to the role of Cuban medicine in Grenada’s current health standards.

Cornwall insisted that if it means giving up his right to obtain a U.S. visa to ensure Grenada supports Cuba, “so be it,” arguing that renouncing the Cuban medical mission would significantly harm his country’s healthcare system.

In addition to Cornwall, who is a member of his country’s parliament, last week Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Andall, also a Cuban graduate, said that Grenada not only has a legal obligation, but also a moral and ethical one, to the Cuban people, and reiterated that the Eastern Caribbean nation is sovereign and independent in its decision-making.

An announcement from the U.S. State Department last week announced a visa restriction policy for officials from countries that supported or continue to support the work of Cuban medical brigades, amid accusations of alleged slave labor trafficking, which has already been rejected by Caribbean leaders and politicians.

Cuba rejects the use of an interventionist mechanism against Venezuela

Geneva, Switzerland, March 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuba today rejected the use of an interventionist mechanism in Venezuela’s internal affairs, imposed without its consent on a systematically attacked country, according to diplomatic sources at the Human Rights Council (HRC).

At a session of the 58th session of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), Cuba’s permanent representative to the body, Rodolfo Benítez Verson, stated that this mechanism responds to a political agenda that uses human rights as a pretext to intervene in Venezuelan internal affairs.

The defense of the South American country is not a problem exclusively for Venezuelans, the Caribbean diplomat emphasized, calling on all those who defend the UN Charter and the cause of human rights.

The Council cannot be an instrument of coercion and blackmail against the countries of the South, nor can it endorse attacks on Venezuela’s institutions and sovereignty, as this would cause irreparable damage to the defense of human rights, he stated.

Benítez Verson stated that the Human Rights Commission must demand the immediate cessation of unilateral coercive measures against the Venezuelan people, which they seek to subdue by the cruelest means.

We reject the unprecedented, falsely invoking by the United States government of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to escalate its policy of hostility against the government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Cuban ambassador emphasized.

It is our obligation to encourage respectful dialogue and genuine cooperation with Venezuela, in accordance with the principles of impartiality, non-politicization, and non-interference, the diplomat stated.

Calls to disregard the election results in Venezuela are irresponsible and disrespectful of the will of the people. Venezuelans have the right to defend their revolution, and it is up to them alone to define their future; no one else, the island’s representative emphasized.

Cuba reiterates its strong support and solidarity with the legitimate government of Nicolás Maduro Moros and the Civic-Military Union of the Bolivarian and Chavista People, the official from the Caribbean state emphasized.

Cuban doctors’ work in the southern state of Mexico is highlighted

Mexico City, March 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban doctors are key today to the care of chronic diseases at the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital in San Luis Acatlán, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, according to a media outlet on its website.

A report in the prestigious newspaper La Jornada indicates that the proper management of these conditions has contributed to reducing the demand for care in the hospital’s emergency department, and that cases of asthma attacks, diabetes mellitus decompensation, or kidney failure are virtually nonexistent.

“Since last year, they have been treated by Cuban specialists, and the community’s quality of life has improved on average,” the text states.

Preventive medicine and health promotion enhance the well-being of communities, said Dasiel Budet, from Havana, who, along with a Cuban colleague, inaugurated the internal medicine service at the health institution in July 2024.

The newspaper also visited the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital located in the municipality of Ayutla de los Libres, where surgeries have been performed for more than a year, Monday through Friday, by two specialists from the island. Without them, the operating room would be closed.

At the health center, director Pablo Navarrete, along with Mexican and Cuban doctors, are collaborating in whatever is needed, because half of the medical positions are vacant and the need to address obstetric emergencies, among other things.

“Premature births and newborns, who should be seen by a neonatologist, but there isn’t one, are then taken care of by pediatricians, of whom there are only three, whether or not they are on duty: two Cubans and one Cuban,” the outlet reports.
