Colombo, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) The Mawbina newspaper in this capital, published the request of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka to the United States to remove Cuba from the arbitrary list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

The daily publication reproduced the statement in which the political organization further urged the Colombo government to join the growing world campaign demanding the cessation of Washington’s aggressiveness against the Caribbean nation.

It also urged the authorities of the South Asian country to demand the lifting of all the unacceptable measures of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that for more than 60 years US governments have imposed against the Cubans.

The Communist Party of Sri Lanka denounced that Washington’s unjust designation of Cuba as a country sponsoring terrorism serves as an instrument of coercion and economic pressure against the Cuban people and is also a major obstacle to the commercial and economic development of that island.

He pointed out that anyone doing business with Cuba runs the risk of receiving punitive measures by the U.S. government, by this, the Caribbean country is prevented from obtaining energy, food, and even medical equipment for its inhabitants.

Photos from Prensa Latina on display in the US capital

Washington, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) The work of the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina (PL), from its foundation to date, is the leitmotif of the photo exhibition entitled “65 Years at the Service of Truth,” inaugurated in this capital.

Images showing the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, along with Ernest Hemingway, Jesse Jackson, and Angela Davis, and current coverage, including the protests in support of the Palestinian people, are part of the collection of photos taken by photojournalists and correspondents of this agency present in 35 countries.

How and why did Prensa Latina emerge at the beginning of the Revolution led by Fidel Castro? PL Vice President Luisa Maria Gonzalez asked on Thursday during the opening ceremony at the Nicaraguan Embassy in Washington DC.

“The answer is simple: Prensa Latina was the response of the emerging revolutionary and progressive government against media manipulation,” Gonzalez explained.

She said: “The big Western information monopolies, which hold hegemony in the field of communications, published completely distorted stories about Cuba that did not offer an accurate image of what was happening in Cuba.

She affirmed that this media “has been a great audacity since the first day.”

Attending the photo exhibition inauguration were journalists, solidarity groups, Lautaro Sandino, Charge d’Affaires at the Nicaragua Embassy in this capital, and Cuban Ambassador Lianys Torres.

Sandino expressed his gratitude to Cuba, whose life-saving history enabled him to bring doctors and teachers to his country.

The photos on display were taken by photojournalists and correspondents over the years, and their value lies precisely in the fact that they show wide and varied coverage.

Gonzalez started her visit to the United States on May 29 to participate in the Hispanic-American Press Congress, held in New York on May 31 and June 1 as part of the 65th anniversary of the founding of this news agency, at an initiative of Fidel.

Prensa Latina has offices in the United States, Latin America, and the main capitals of Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Vietnam advocate removal of Cuba from list of terrorist states

Hanoi, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam supports the call made by the international community to the United States to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang said in a press conference.

The spokeswoman responded to a question from Prensa Latina Latin American Information Agency by pointing out that the State Department recently excluded Cuba from the group of countries that “did not fully cooperate with the United States’ anti-terrorist efforts in 2023.” However, so far, the United States has not eliminated Cuba from the list of states that they consider to be sponsors of terrorism.

“Together with the international community, Vietnam calls on the United States to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and completely lift the embargo” against Cuba, the spokeswoman said, emphasizing that “Vietnam’s constant position is to support firmly the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly that request the United States to end the embargo against Cuba.”

“Vietnam hopes that the United States will take the necessary measures to fully normalize relations with Cuba, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in America and the world,” the spokeswoman stressed.

Organizations in solidarity with Cuba also demanded days ago the definitive exclusion of Cuba from the arbitrary list.

“The United States should consider ending and permanently removing Cuba from the list, thus stopping the imposition of irrational and unfounded economic and financial blockade measures that seriously affect the lives of the brother Cuban people,” the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association said in a statement.

The declaration also confirms that the popular organizations of Vietnam firmly support and trust the revolutionary cause of the Cuban people in its fight against the US blockade and for the construction and development of Cuba.
