Aleida Guevara thanks Prensa Latina for recalling her father

Caracas, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) Thank you for persevering and continuing to recall him, Aleida Guevara, Che’s eldest daughter, affirmed as she expressed her gratitude to Prensa Latina on its 65th anniversary on June 16.

Guevara, a pediatrician by profession, stressed in Venezuela that Prensa Latina “is one of those things that stand the test of time, founded by my own father, and continue to work and bring truth to the peoples of the world.”

“My respect and admiration for the journalists who sacrifice a lot to give us this priority, that truth, and you have to know what is happening to give us that truth to act; you are part of it,” she said.

Prensa Latina was founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), Ernesto Che Guevara, and Argentine journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti.

On June 16, 1959, the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina became the first alternative media outlet in the American continent to face up to large information monopolies dominated by the United States.

Amid the disinformation campaigns against the emerging Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro called for Operation Truth, and in that clamor to reveal reality, Prensa Latina was founded under the motto, then and now, “At the Service of Truth.”

Based in Havana, the capital of Cuba, Prensa Latina has offices in more than 30 countries on all continents and maintains professional relations with more than 100 media outlets globally.

Aleida Guevara is in Caracas on a work agenda that consists of meetings with solidarity friends and the Simon Bolivar Institute, among others.

Cuba rejects again its inclusion in terrorism list

Havana, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón, reportedly reiterated to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, the denunciation for the inclusion of his country in the US terrorist list.

In a statement, also addressed to the president of the United Nations General Assembly and to the presidency of the Security Council, Soberon shared the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) entitled “The United States must remove Cuba, once and for all, from the list of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism”.

This statement denounces this unjust inclusion and stresses that it is not enough just to recognize that Cuba fully cooperates with Washington’s anti-terrorist efforts.

Similarly, Soberón requests that the letter and its annex (the Minrex statement) be circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 109, and of the Security Council.

The U.S. State Department informed that Cuba was removed from the list of countries that, according to Washington, “do not cooperate fully” in the fight against terrorism.

For its part, the Cuban government considered the provision insufficient, which is not equivalent to the elimination of the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which implies serious limitations for the island’s economic and commercial business.
