Argentine organization condemns inclusion of Cuba in US report

Buenos Aires, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) The Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA) joined the voices that condemn the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba in a report on human trafficking published by the US State Department.

The organization said in a statement that the decision to keep Cuba in the report “is one more way to punish the Cuban people and government for not bowing to imperial designs.” “They use contradictory and not credible arguments to distort and defame the work of Cuban medical collaboration for decades, in more than a hundred countries,” the URCA dispatch says.

“The United States government knows very well that Cuba restored health, saved lives, and restored vision to millions of people around the world. The truth that Washington hides is that this list, like all the others, has a marked political objective,” the organization adds.

The URCA also considers that these reports “only demonstrate the frustrations of the empire in not being able to surrender the Cuban people, even with the most genocidal, anti-human, and cruel policies used to date.”

The URCA went on to speak out against the economic, commercial, and financial war that the United States government is waging against Cuba. “Since January 1st, 1959, Cuba freed itself from the chains that tied it to imperial power and, as a free and sovereign country, it has the right to choose its own destiny,” the statement indicates.

Havana, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) The Association of Cuban Bartenders (ACC) is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Thursday with two important international awards won by bartenders in Venice and Athens, its president, Eddie Naranjo, informed.

Naranjo told Prensa Latina that Ana Carla Hernandez, a bartender at the Habana Libre Tryp Hotel, was the international winner of the Lady Drink 2024 Cocktail, held in Venice, Italy.

Meanwhile, Kenia Borges, bartender of the Melia Internacional Hotel in Varadero, won the first edition of the International BarLady Cocktail Championship among competitors from 16 countries.

Naranjo explained that the ACC was the only Association of Latin American bartenders invited to participate in the BarLady competition and stated that winning this award would allow them to attract the second edition of this world competition to Cuba in 2025.

He added that one of the ACC’s objectives is to increase the training of all bartenders, raise their preparation and professionalism, and increase the knowledge the bartenders can offer from the bar to the customer.

The ACC president pointed out that the Association has 1,582 members distributed in 19 grassroots organizations nationwide, but still needs to grow.

Cuba recalls declaration of non-revocable socialism

Havana, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) The National Assembly of Cuba (ANPP) on Wednesday recalled on X the 22nd anniversary of the declaration of the irrevocable socialism, after a referendum supported by more than eight million people.

On X, the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales, distinguished that in 2002, after a broad process of popular participation and the signature of millions of Cubans, the ANPP approved the Constitutional Reform Act that proclaimed the irrevocable socialism”.

Electors voted in favor of the socialist content of the Magna Carta, in response to the interferenceist protesters of the then president of the United States, George W. Bush (2001-2009).

Later, the ANPP members unanimously approved the inclusion of an article in the 1976 Constitution, declaring that Cuba would never return to capitalism.

The text clearly expressed the irrevocable nature of the prevailing political, economic and social system, as well as the prohibition to negotiate under pressure, coercion or threat of a foreign power.

After approving the agreement by the Cuban Parliament, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, expressed that the purpose of this action was to preserve the fruits of the revolutionary work at a time when the unfeasibility of capitalism to solve the most pressing problems of Humanity was increasingly evident.

Six scientific seismologists expedition in Cuban Waters

Havana, 26 Jun (Prensa Latina) Seismologists from six countries are participating in a scientific expedition in Caribbean waters, emphasizing the vicinity of the northern area of Santiago de Cuba, considered to have high seismic activity, it was reported.

The research will last until August with the participation of specialists from Cuba, France, Belgium, Germany, Haiti, and the United States, Granma newspaper published.

The oceanographic fleet “Pourquoi-Pas?” (Why not?), of French origin, set sail several days ago as part of the Haitian-Twist marine scientific research project.

The experts determine geophysical parameters and use equipment to obtain reliable records of possible faults, TV Santiago said.

The objective is intended to analyze the risks of the active system of the twin faults, located on the northern edge of the Caribbean tectonic plate, and the recovery of seismometers installed at the bottom of the ocean.

According to Dr. Bladimir Moreno, of the National Center for Seismological Research in Santiago de Cuba, the expedition aims to study the tectonic history and the structure of the crust, as well as the mantle in the area.

Likewise, characterize the behavior and movement of the tectonic fault and identify the thermal state and the role of fluids in the process of fault rupture.

During the 53-day trip, different geophysical measurements will be analyzed, including multichannel reflection seismic and open-angle seismic, with seismometers deposited on the seabed.

France and WFP supply Cuba with micronutrient powder for children

Havana, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) France, the World Food Program (WFP) and health authorities are working on a comprehensive strategy for the supply of micronutrient powder (MNP) for children between six and 23 months of age, official sources informed.

Known as Chispitas para crecer, the MNP consists of mixtures of vitamins and minerals in powder designed for distribution to this population group, providing them with a balanced combination to strengthen their immune system.

At the delivery ceremony, in the ninth medical office of the Cosme Ordoñez polyclinic in Havana, French Ambassador to Cuba Laurent Burin des Roziers praised the initiative and recalled that both nations have a long tradition of friendship. We must continue to show solidarity at difficult times and this donation is an example of that, he added.

In April 2023, France made a donation of 750,000 euros to WFP Cuba, 207,000 of which were used to purchase this supplement.

All 10,776 metric tons of MNP will benefit 44,608 children and will be distributed until 2025 in all Cuban provinces, except for the five eastern provinces, where the product arrived in 2008.

The sources specified that the planned delivery cycle, which is carried out through the family doctor’s offices, contemplates two months of supplementation and four months of rest to restart another cycle.

The use of MNP has an impact on children’s health when it is administered in the first 1,000 days of life, because it favors the development of the brain and body, and reduces the risk of iron deficiency and anemia in infants and young children.

Cuban agriculture might increase support for tourism

Havana, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban agricultural products can contribute to the sustainability of tourism, an economic segment in recovery, official sources noted.

An article in Granma newspaper pointed out on Tuesday that national productive forms are a viable alternative to guarantee the supplies of fresh and processed agricultural products required by tourism.

The article insists that Cuba’s productive forms might guarantee the supplies of fresh agricultural products that tourism requires, as 65.8 percent of the total purchases from the Cuban tourism system to ensure the sustainability of the sector come from the domestic industry.

The general director of Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) of Cuba, Pilar Alvarez, assured that such elements demonstrate that the sector continues to be the main driving force of the country’s economy and an important driving force of productive chains.

However, she considered that not all the potential of each territory has yet been exploited to contribute to the country’s tourism development.

She told Granma that imports are reduced in technological system services, as well as in the production of inputs, food and beverages, only importing what is not produced in the country.

She added that the direct effects of the intensified blockade (economic and financial pressure from the United States on Cuba) and the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic affected both tourism and the national industry, due to a lack of financial resources at the right moment.

For this reason, the challenge that the sector faces is to provide a service of excellence and advance in the development of tourism, she stressed.

Alvarez noted that national productive forms are a viable alternative to guarantee the supplies of fresh and processed agricultural products that tourism operations require.

In general terms, she explained that contracts were signed with more than 1,200 of these forms (credit and service cooperatives, agricultural production, independent producers, basic cooperative production units and local development projects), with deliveries of more than 25 percent of what is required by the sector.

Cuban foreign minister demands end to Israel’s genocide in Palestine

Havana, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said on Tuesday that Israel must end its acts of genocide in Palestinian territories.

On his X profile, the head of Cuban diplomacy noted that those who remain silent in light of the Zionist State’s massacre of the civilian population in Gaza are accomplices to those acts.

He pointed out that according to the Save the Children Foundation, some 21,000 Palestinian children are missing as a result of Israel’s aggression, which stated on October 7.

Constant bombings, detentions without charges, collapsed building, extreme violence during arrests and the discovery of mass graves are some of the factors that contribute to this tragedy, the humanitarian organization said.

In 262 days of aggression, the Israeli occupation army has murdered 37,626 people, while an undetermined number of victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, because rescue and civil defense teams cannot access them, the Ministry of Health reported from Gaza.

Over the last 24 hours, Israel’s forces have killed 28 civilians in that territory and have intensified their bombing campaign on several areas.

Cuba expresses satisfaction for Julian Assange’s release

Havana, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today expressed his satisfaction with the release of Australian journalist Julian Assange, imprisoned for showing the world the crimes committed by the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In his profile on X, the Cuban leader wrote: #AssangeFree. The long and cruel punishment imposed on him for his denunciations of imperial crimes will remain in the memory of the people as proof of how little his jailers believe in freedom of the press.

In a similar sense, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, in a message on this social network, described Assange’s release as a victory of the truth, after years of unjust imprisonment and political persecution.

Assange was released Monday and traveled to his native Australia following an agreement with the U.S. government to plead guilty to a felony under the Espionage Act, after spending the last five years of his life in a British prison.

According to WikiLeaks, the release of its founder is the result of a global campaign that involved grassroots organizers, press freedom advocates, lawmakers, and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations.
