Colombo, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) Ambassador Andrés González thanked Sri Lanka for its support every year in the United Nations vote against the blockade of the United States against Cuba, an official source disclosed.
In a meeting in Colombo with Dayani Mendis, director general of the United Nations and human rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, González also highlighted that Sri Lanka is part of the group of 123 nations that signed a declaration before the Human Rights Council of the UN, demanding the exclusion of Caribbean Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism created by Washington.
González and Mendis also talked about reciprocal support in international forums and organizations of the United Nations.
This year, Sri Lanka and Cuba celebrate 65 years of their diplomatic ties, established on July 29th, 1959, a few months after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, when Commander Ernesto “Che” Guevara visited the country, whose name was Ceylon at that time.
In recent days, the Cuban ambassador delivered to Foreign Minister Ali Sabry a congratulatory letter from his counterpart Bruno Rodríguez for the anniversary of bilateral relations.
In the letter, Rodríguez reiterated to Sabry the invariable willingness to continue working to strengthen the historical ties of friendship and cooperation of the two nations.
Havana, August 28 (Radio Habana Cuba) — Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said on Tuesday that the Caribbean island nation is very much aware of the destabilizing activities of the National Endowment for Democracy of the United States (NED) and its interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
In his account on the social network X, the foreign minister referred to the report recently published by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the subversive actions perpetrated by the Foundation.
The text reveals that, since 2017, the NED has financed 54 anti-Cuban organizations. It reports that in 2018, the Cuban Democratic Directorate, an anti-government organization, disclosed that it had received “funds for democracy” from the United States and paid $48,000 to its employees, agents and contractors in Cuba.
The Asian giant’s report warns that in recent years, the NED has continued to change tactics and has gone even further by acting against the historical trend of peace, development and beneficial cooperation between peoples.
It also underlines the urgency of unmasking the NED and alerting all countries about the need to see beyond its true colors, protect themselves and fight against its attempts at disruption and sabotage. (Source: Prensa Latina)
Havana, August 28 (Radio Habana Cuba) — Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez sent congratulations on Tuesday through his X account to his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, on his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister of the Asian nation and wished the Vietnamese foreign minister success in his new position.
The top representative of Cuban diplomacy also reiterated the will to continue consolidating the relations of brotherhood and solidarity between both countries.
The day before, Vietnam’s National Assembly approved the appointment of Nguyen Hoa Binh, Ho Duc Phoc and Bui Thanh Son as deputy prime ministers, and Do Duc Duy and Nguyen Hai Ninh to take over the reins of the ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, and Justice, respectively.
Revolutionary Cuba and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960, which both governments describe as excellent.
The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, visited Vietnam in September 1973 when it was still divided between North and South Vietnam. Fidel became the first and only world leader to tour North Vietnam during the U.S. war of aggression against the Southeast Asian country.
Fidel Castro crossed the 17th parallel, the dividing line between North Vietnam and the liberated territories of South Vietnam. Fidel and his delegation fulfilled a busy agenda that included visits to the Martyrs’ Monument and to Ho Chi Minh’s house, as well as official talks with Vietnamese leaders.
Fidel vowed to support the Vietnamese people during their struggle against U.S. imperialism and said that Cuban people would donate their own blood to the people of Vietnam to help them defeat our common enemy.
Washington, August 27 (Radio Habana Cuba) — U.S. Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee has described Washington’s blockade against Cuba as “obsolete and harmful,” and said that she will work to achieve “a more intelligent and humane policy” towards the Caribbean island nation.
A member of the House of Representatives for California since 1998, Lee recalled that she has deployed her efforts in Washington’s policy towards Cuba for four decades, and that she is committed to lifting the “failed embargo (blockade) on Cuba.”
“The United States should support the efforts of the Cuban people to build a peaceful and prosperous society, which can satisfy the hopes and needs of the Cuban people. And we see the Cuban people organizing to achieve this,” the president of the Congressional Black Caucus (2009-2011) stressed in a statement.
“But the U.S. policy continues to be based on the idea that punishing Cubans is somehow helping them,” she emphasized, recalling that during the Barack Obama administration, some important measures were adopted “to rethink our strategy towards Cuba.”
However, the Donald Trump administration “not only undid those measures, but expanded the embargo, accusing Cuba of being a state sponsor of terrorism,” Barbara Lee noted.
She commented that President Joe Biden has adopted “a series of small, important and positive measures.” “We have begun to speak again with the Cuban government on issues of mutual interest, such as migration and law enforcement. We have increased our diplomatic and consular presence, and we have taken measures to encourage travel and trade.”
For the U.S. lawmaker, “these steps remain only symbolic changes in a policy that continues to isolate and punish the Cuban people. After six decades of failure, it is time for the United States to try something different,” because in the end it is “the Cuban people who are paying the price.” (Source: Prensa Latina)
Ulaanbaatar, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) The director of the Cuban Center for Sex Education (Cenesex), Mariela Castro, denounced at the World Women’s Forum, which was held in Mongolia, the effects of the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuban society, diplomatic officials highlighted.
At the event, held on August 22 and 23 in Ulaanbaatar, the Cuban legislator also stressed that the US economic, commercial and financial hostility limits the acquisition of medicines, supplies for sexual and reproductive health, as well as resources for the care of victims of sexual violence, among other aspects, according to a press release from the Cuban mission in Mongolia.
Before the Forum, sponsored by Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaay and co-sponsored by the Foreign Ministry and the United Nations (UN), the Cuban delegate took the opportunity to thank on behalf of her country the support of Mongolia to the people of Cuba in confronting the genocidal policy Washington has been carrying out for more than 60 years.
She also reiterated Cuba’s interest in continuing to develop bilateral relations in several fields, including ties between women’s organizations and political parties.
Under the theme Towards a Greener Future, the meeting brought together, among other personalities, the Mongolian President, UN Under-Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed, Chancellor Battsetseg Batmunkh and Oyungerel Batnasan, President of the Women’s Association, both from the host country.
Havana, August 26 (Radio Habana Cuba) — The Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, reiterated this Sunday solidarity with Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro, in the face of attempts to ignore the results of the presidential elections of last July 28, in that country.
The party leader stated in his profile on the social network X, that the population of the South American nation demonstrated the validity of the lineage of (Simón) Bolívar and the strength of (Hugo) Chávez.
“With the undisputed leadership of President Nicolás Maduro, they have defended the sovereignty and peace of their country against those who are determined to attack and discredit it,” he said in his message.
The Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela certified last Thursday the victory of President Nicolás Maduro after a formal examination of the results of the presidential elections.

La Paz, August 27 (Radio Habana Cuba) — The Solidarity Movement of Bolivia has collected a shipment for Cuba of about two tons of powdered milk and school supplies for Cuban children that arrived today at the Viru Viru international airport in Santa Cruz.
The Cuban consul general in that department, Dalay Lamar, thanked the solidarity activists and her compatriots living in this country for the effort made to complete the shipment symbolically delivered in a massive event in the José Martí square, despite the cold temperatures.
Lamar highlighted, in particular, the efforts of the Che Guevara Brigade of graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine based in Cuba to successfully carry out this action aimed at benefiting children harmed by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Caribbean island.
The official expressed her gratitude to the Bolivians and Cubans who meet every Sunday in the Santa Cruz square to keep alive the spirit of solidarity and reject the policy maintained by Washington against Cuba for six decades, which she described as “inhumane and criminal.”
She also supported the demand of those present in the claim that Cuba be excluded from the unilateral list of alleged sponsors of terrorism with which the White House intends to justify its economic, commercial and financial reprisals.
In this context, the Consul General praised the beginning of the work of the Bolivian Solidarity Movement throughout the country with a view to the holding in October in Valle Grande of the Annual Meeting in support of the Cuban Revolution.
Activist Humberto Arandia confirmed the commitment of the solidarity group to persist in denouncing the hostile policy of the U.S. government towards the Cuban people. He also urged to continue the fight against the blockade by sending supplies and food.
For its part, the Association of Cubans Living in Santa Cruz “Félix Varela” called for denouncing the economic damage caused to the Cuban people by the US government’s blockade and thanked the Bolivian brothers for their solidarity actions.
Young people from the Andean Amazonian country recently incorporated into the Solidarity Movement and a representative of the women’s social organization Bartolina Sisa expressed their support for the Cuban government and people to those present.

Havana, August 27 (Radio Habana Cuba) — The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) has rejected in the strongest terms the accusations of alleged interference by this Caribbean nation in the local electoral campaigns of the state of Florida, in the United States.
Through a statement published on its website, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that articles in The Miami Herald newspaper and others from the McClatchy press organization, to which the newspaper belongs, began a new slanderous campaign against the island at the end of July.
The text specifies that these media hide behind supposed anonymous intelligence sources, a common practice that the journalistic organization and its editors are accustomed to when lies are the basis of the report.
“The accusation is that Cuba is making efforts to influence local electoral campaigns in the state of Florida in the United States,” the Minrex stressed.
The Foreign Ministry also deplored the fact that the U.S. government, its State Department and its intelligence agencies have not disqualified the direct reference to alleged government agencies on whose authority these slanderous articles appear to rest.
“The U.S. government cannot cite any evidence or indication, because it does not exist, that Cuba has interfered or has intended to interfere in its electoral processes, or that it is favoring any politician from the state of Florida or another state in that country,” the statement stressed.
The statement also stated that “if it were not an absolutely unfounded accusation on such a serious issue, the statement would cause astonishment, since it could be interpreted that the U.S. government has made a 180-degree turn and for the first time in more than a century considers it inappropriate to interfere in the electoral processes of other countries.”
The Ministry noted that it is not clear in any of the articles whether “the government intends to abandon a practice that is as illegitimate as it is unacceptable and which has been a part of U.S. foreign policy for so long.” (Source: PL)
Santa Clara, August 23 (Radio Habana Cuba) — The congratulatory message from Army General Raúl Castro Ruz to the members of the Federation of the central province of Villa Clara arrived on Thursday afternoon, read by Teresa Amarelle Boué, General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).
During the meeting at the House of Orientation for Women and Families in the city of Santa Clara, provincial capital of Villa Clara, Nila Ojeda Sarduy and Deisy María Pozo Pérez, founders of the FMC in the territory and who have been worthy of important distinctions within the organization, were recognized.
The occasion was also a good opportunity to recognize the secretariats of the seven provinces that stood out in their emulation for the anniversary and to honor the Cubanas Project, sponsored by the female group Ensemble Vocal Musas and the Federation of Cuban Women of the province.
Teresa Amarelle Boué, General Secretary of the FMC, urged the women present to maintain the achievements of the Revolution and Socialism.
Havana, August 23 (Radio Habana Cuba) — Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, sent a message of congratulations “to all Cuban women for the heroic work they have carried out in these 64 years, for what they have done and continue to do,” the Secretary General of the Federation of Cuban Women reported on the social network X.
Without the need for words, women’s hands transcend falsehood and caress the truths because they speak a language only revealed to them.
The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) accompanied its mother, the Revolution, on the path, grateful for the gift of freedom and willing to expand it for the benefit of all, the only way to pay the debt for its existence.
On August 23, 1960, Cuban women united their efforts in a single organization, and elected Vilma Espín Guillois as their first and eternal leader. From that moment on, they began their battle for the essential role in a society devoted to justice.
However, conscience lags behind political will, and that gap imposed the urgent and still current task of removing centuries of machismo and other legacies of mental colonialism.
Until the fall of the Neocolonial Republic, the luckiest followed the pre-established destiny of finding a good man –for his money– and fulfilling the service of guardians of the home. In other cases, poverty and the few alternatives forced them to stain their dignity in degrading activities, including prostitution.
Against the worst of the past, the FMC bet on the future, and its representatives sought the best within themselves to give it to the call of each feat, in a country overflowing with them. Their faces were engraved in every sphere of human creation.
The greatest guarantee of continuing the struggle lies in nonconformity, and the present poses tremendous challenges to keep the shared dream safe. This organization, like every daughter of the revolutionary process, needs to connect with the deepest part of its being to mobilize the most beautiful endeavor: the aggrandizement of the Homeland.
At this point I will avoid mentioning their names to avoid the risk of unforgivable omissions, but also because two words are enough to invoke them all: Cuban woman. (Source: Granma)
