The Cuban ambassador to Brazil criticized the use of the facilities of an organization focused on world peace and security to accommodate anti-Cuban sectors in the state of Florida.
Cuba’s ambassador to Brazil, Victor Cairo, questioned on Thursday, October 22, an event organized by the United States representation at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in New York , denouncing that said activity, which he described as a farce, responds to diplomatic maneuvers directed against the Caribbean island.
In an article published in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper , the diplomat pointed out that the meeting, held on October 19, contradicts the guiding principles of the international organization and violates the Charter of the United Nations.
The Cuban representative criticized the use of the facilities of an organization dedicated to global peace and security to host anti-Cuban groups from the state of Florida . He recalled that the meeting generated protests from Cuban diplomats in the U.S. city, who warned about the presence at the event of individuals linked to terrorist acts against the Caribbean nation.
Cairo framed the actions of the United States within the context of the upcoming debate at the UN General Assembly, scheduled for October 27 and 28, on the resolution demanding an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than six decades .
According to him, the US delegation is trying to exert pressure and use false arguments to influence the position of member states before the vote.
The ambassador described the blockade as a policy of collective punishment that violates Cuban sovereignty and directly affects the population’s access to essential goods such as food, medicine, and fuel.
Cairo reaffirmed that condemning these unilateral sanctions represents an ethical and humanitarian duty for the international community, concluding with his government’s position that Cuba does not constitute a threat, unlike the restrictions imposed by Washington.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also recently condemned the maneuvers deployed by Washington in recent days ahead of the votes in the United Nations General Assembly .
Rodríguez Parrilla warned that the White House is carrying out a brutal deployment of extreme pressure against numerous States to force them to change their position regarding the draft resolution against the economic, commercial and financial blockade they imposed on Cuba, particularly with intense coercive efforts by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
