Cuba and Iran highlight the importance of bilateral relations

Havana, April 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today received Saeed Khatibzadeh, deputy foreign minister and president of the Iranian Institute for Political Studies, in Havana.

In his account on X, the Antillean chancellor highlighted the importance that Havana places on high-level political dialogue and the development of bilateral ties in multiple sectors.

The Cubaminrex website described the meeting as cordial, during which the parties highlighted the existing brotherhood between the two countries, as well as their mutual interest in continuing to foster economic, trade, and cooperation ties.

They also discussed unilateral coercive measures and other aggressions that the United States government and its allies are applying against various states. In this context, Rodríguez updated the visitor on the impact of the US blockade.

The top Cuban diplomat thanked the Iranian deputy foreign minister for his government’s long-standing support for the international call to end this policy, while rejecting the coercive measures the Iranian nation is facing.

The diplomats also discussed the complex situation in the Middle East, the scale of Israel’s aggression, and the threats to regional and international peace, stability, and security, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Cuba and Iran established relations on February 10, 1975, which were interrupted in 1976 and reestablished in 1979, following the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, the source explained.
