Pinar del Río – The dignity, independence, and sovereignty of Cuba have also been defended and built by its women.
These 66 years signify that Cuban women have ceased to be spectators and have become protagonists of their own history.
This was affirmed in this province by the member of the Political Bureau and General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), Teresa Amarelle Boué, during the main event commemorating this new anniversary of the organization, on August 23rd.
Amarelle Boué also recalled that the triumph of the Revolution and the emergence of the FMC (Federation of Cuban Women) meant that millions of women had the opportunity to study, work, improve themselves, research, produce, and lead in all areas of the economic, political, social, and cultural life of our country.
Currently, “we are the majority in sectors such as education, health, science, and the judicial system, among others,” she said, adding that “there is an increasingly greater female presence in the non-state sector, in agricultural production cooperatives, and in access to leadership positions.”
As an example, she stated that Cuba has the second-highest percentage of women in its Parliament in the world.
The General Secretary of the FMC also addressed the main challenges facing the organization, in a context marked by the intensification of the U.S. blockade, which severely impacts the lives of the Cuban people.
“We must pay special attention to vulnerable individuals and families and contribute, together with the relevant institutions, to finding solutions; we must focus particularly on our young women who are not in school or work; it is essential to continue working for gender equality and the prevention of violence,” she emphasized.
During the event, held at the Hermanos Cruz People’s Council, awards were presented to the provinces of Artemisa, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, and Villa Clara, all recognized for their outstanding work within the FMC, and to Pinar del Río, which received the National Vanguard designation.
