Havana, November 22 (Radio Habana Cuba) — Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed his appreciation for the help offered by several Caribbean countries after the damage caused by the two cyclones and two earthquakes that affected several provinces of the country.

Through the social network X, Rodríguez wrote: “Your solidarity support is an example of the principles of friendship and cooperation that promote our historic relations.”

Caribbean nations such as Mexico and Venezuela, and others such as Russia, Japan, Norway, Spain and Slovakia have sent donations, either individually or through initiatives coordinated by multilateral organizations or Non-Governmental Organizations.

Venezuela sent a significant shipment of more than 200 tons of humanitarian aid on Thursday, including 54,000 items distributed in more than 20 containers. Previously, on November 6, it had sent another 100 tons, with construction materials and supplies for primary care, among others.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil said: “We have received Cuban solidarity at all times.  The Cuban people and their government have always been there to support us in literacy, in medical and technical missions, in agriculture and food.”

He also assured that the South American nation will always support “sister Cuba in the context of the strategic bilateral alliance that we have and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).”

On the other hand, Spain sent nine tons, while Japan contributed 160,000 dollars in basic necessities.  The European Union, in collaboration with the United Nations, was one of the first to act with the shipment of 94 tons of medicines and essential supplies.

Meanwhile, Norway, through the UN Central Fund for Emergency Response, allocated 600,000 dollars, and Slovakia contributed 40 tons of powdered milk through the World Food Program.

The latest weather events and two earthquakes affected several regions of the country.  Their impacts add to the already complicated reality of the Caribbean country, caused by the coercive measures of the unilateral commercial, economic and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government.

U.S. blockade hinders Cuba’s sustainable development

U.S. blockade hinders Cuba’s sustainable development

By María Josefina Arce.

Nov 22 (Radio Habana Cuba) The blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than six decades affects the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to achieve a balance between economic progress, social welfare and preservation of the environment.

The economic, financial and commercial sanctions reach all sectors of life and society, hindering the country’s National Development Plan and negatively affecting the quality of life of Cubans.

This has been denounced by the Caribbean nation in various international forums and was reiterated in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, by the Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, Armando Rodríguez Batista, during his speech at the Ministerial Table on Just Transition of the Program of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

From the point of view of environmental protection, the economic siege goes against the environmental strategy of the largest of the Antilles, which is highly vulnerable to climate change due to its insularity.

The hostile policies of successive U.S. administrations hinder the acquisition of advanced technologies needed to implement the adaptation and mitigation measures included in the Task Life, State Plan to Confront Climate Change.

Likewise, as the Cuban authorities have denounced, financial opportunities are reduced because it is not possible to carry out transactions with banks with interests in US territory.

In addition, the United States has opposed Cuba’s access to international financing for environmental protection projects such as Mi Costa, which aims to strengthen coastal resilience in the face of climate change.

This initiative is expected to restore more than 15,000 hectares of coastal ecosystems, mainly mangrove forests and marsh grasslands, which will provide a natural barrier against strong winds and flooding.

The blockade also hinders exchanges with U.S. scientists and access to specialized information on digital websites.

Despite the U.S. siege, Cuba remains committed to sustainable development, which includes improving the living conditions of all its citizens and preserving the environment.

US Congresswoman says she will never give up friendship with Cuba

Washington, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) US Congresswoman Maxine Waters affirmed that she will never give up her friendship with Cuba and reiterated her continuous calling for the elimination of the blockade that currently causes suffering to that nation.

“I began to call for the lifting of the embargo (blockade) some few years ago, and I know we could not achieve it, but we must never stop trying,” Waters told Prensa Latina in this capital.

I am a friend of Cuba and have visited that country several times, the Democratic representative from California stated at the end of a meeting at Havana’s diplomatic mission in Washington, with members of the US Agricultural Coalition for Cuba.

Waters, also a member of the House of Representatives, added, “I think we need to focus on what we could do for the relationship between the two nations.”

The chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 1997 to 1998 stated that they need to ensure that US agricultural products reach Cuba. “So I will never give up my friendship with Cuba, and I look forward to my next visit.”

In welcoming the members of the farm coalition at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters here on Thursday evening, Charge d’Affaires Lianys Torres said Washington’s policy toward Havana “continues to be based on the prohibition of regular trade between companies of both countries.”

Torres said: “The commercial, financial, and economic blockade, Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, and Cuba’s inclusion in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list not only affect our economy but also have a direct impact on the livelihood of the Cuban people.

Cuba reaffirms commitment to full development of children

Havana, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuban authorities confirmed their willingness to guarantee the well-being and full and integral development of children, on World Children’s Day on Wednesday.

Cuba boasts great achievements in the area of rights and well-being for girls and boys, according to a message from the Foreign Ministry on its X profile.

“We reiterate our commitment to their protection and integral development and we acknowledge the vocation of all those who work every day for a better future for our children,” the text added.

In 1991, the Cuban Government ratified the Convention, an act that includes the commitment to complying with it.

Cuba: US new veto shows complicity with Israel’s genocide

Havana, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stated on Wednesday that the new veto by the United States in the United Nations Security Council shows the complicity of that government with Israel’s genocide against Palestine.

Rodriguez wrote on his X account that the draft resolution demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire, as well as access to humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.

The proposal, submitted by Guyana on behalf of the ten non-permanent members of the body, got 14 votes in favor in the main body for peace on the planet. The US delegation, which has previously blocked several ceasefire projects, justified its decision by saying there was no link between the draft and the immediate release of those held by Hamas since October 2023.

After more than 400 days of conflict, the Security Council has only given the green light to four resolutions on the subject, with little or no effect.

The long-awaited vote coincided with the third consecutive day of debate on the situation in Gaza, where the population of the north is struggling to stay alive after more than 40 days without assistance.

U.S. trade unionists for removing Cuba from terrorist list

U.S. trade unionists for removing Cuba from terrorist list

Havana, Nov 21 (Radio Habana Cuba) The trade unionists in the United States have launched an urgent campaign to demand that President Joe Biden remove Cuba from the arbitrary list of state sponsors of terrorism, which he currently maintains.

In a national call via Zoom, Chris Bender, leader of Building Relations with Cuban Labor, warned that there is only two months left to encourage Biden to fulfill his promises and reverse the anti-Cuban actions of the Trump era.

Mark Friedman, a member of the Local 1484 of the International Association of Machinists and an activist with the Los Angeles Committee Hands Off Cuba, wrote that the majority of Americans, as well as the rest of the world, want an end to this inhumane treatment of the Cuban people.

The trade unionists urged the Democrat president to reverse the harmful restrictions imposed by the administration of his predecessor, Donald Trump, who will soon return to the White House.

The message suggested that Biden restore diplomatic progress, alleviate the suffering of ordinary Cubans, and create opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between the United States and Cuba.

The letter stated that by removing Cuba from the terrorism list and reversing the Trump-era restrictions, the U.S. government can pave the way for a more stable and humane relationship, as well as provide the Cuban people with a meaningful path to recovery and resilience after several natural disasters. Cuba Tourism Day in the search for recovery

Havana, Nov 20 (Radio Habana Cuba) The Cuban Tourism Day is a significant event, particularly in light of the government’s efforts to revive the tourism industry – a crucial sector for the nation’s economy – and address the challenges it faces.

On November 20, 1959, Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, established the National Institute of the Tourism Industry (INIT) and took charge of its direction while serving as Prime Minister.

Since the beginning of the Revolution, the authorities have fostered the development of tourism and have begun to open or improve sites that are now landmarks in the Destination Cuba, where prominent figures, including the late Celia Sánchez and the geographer and captain of the Rebel Army, Antonio Núñez Jiménez, have made significant contributions.

Cuban Tourism Day was declared on November 20, 2019, coinciding with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of INIT and designated by presidential decree to honor individuals and institutions of all kinds that contribute to the development of this sector for the island.

To date, more than ten outstanding individuals in the sector have been recognized, including the vice president of the National Commission for Tourism History, Rafael Sed Pérez; the director of the Las Terrazas Complex, and the first Tourism Minister of Cuba, Osmani Cienfuegos; as well as the late Havana Historian, Eusebio Leal Spengler.

Recently, the Ministry of Tourism has reported on a wide range of activities aimed at rescuing the tourism industry and promoting progress. The archipelago boasts a competitive product in the Caribbean, with a remarkable historical and cultural heritage that sets it apart from other destinations in the region. (Source: Prensa Latina)

Cuba denounces and warns of indiscriminate Israeli attacks in Damascus and Beirut, including near Cuba’s diplomatic headquarters

Nov 18 (Radio Habana Cuba)

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba condemns, in the strongest terms, the continued air strikes perpetrated by Israeli government forces against residential areas in Beirut and Damascus, in flagrant violation of International Law, including International Humanitarian Law.

Cuba denounces, in particular, the air attack carried out on November 14 by Israeli forces occupying the Syrian Golan against the residential neighborhood of Mezzeh, in Damascus, where diplomatic headquarters and offices of the United Nations accredited in Syria are located.

We denounce, in the same terms, the daily Israeli attacks in the southern suburb of Beirut, near the neighborhood of Hazmieh. These attacks have occurred in places very close to the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Damascus and Beirut.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba has requested the attention of the UN Secretary General to this denunciation, and demands that the Security Council exercise its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security, as established in the Charter of the United Nations.

We also request the efforts, in the same sense, of the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The heinous crimes, committed by Israel, have caused dozens of deaths and injuries to civilians, including women and children, and caused the complete destruction of residential buildings.

These actions are part of the aggressive policy of the State of Israel against the nations of the Middle East, as evidenced by the genocide committed against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the attacks in Lebanon and other aggressions against the Syrian territories.

Israel, the Occupying Power, has the military, logistical and political backing of the United States government, which guarantees impunity and has led to a dangerous escalation that further compromises regional and international stability and security.

Cuba, while expressing its solidarity with the nations attacked by Israel, calls for the pursuit of legitimate international efforts to achieve peace and an immediate and permanent ceasefire to avoid further escalation of a conflict that has already cost the lives of tens of thousands of civilians, including women, the elderly and children, and has aggravated the humanitarian crisis to alarming levels in these peoples of the region.

In accordance with its foreign policy based on strict respect for the UN Charter and International Law, the Republic of Cuba reiterates that peace will only be possible in the Middle East through a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the conflict, which contemplates the creation of a sovereign and independent Palestinian State, with the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital and the return of refugees.

It also demands that the entry of Palestine as a full member of the UN be guaranteed without further delay.

Havana, November 18, 2024.
