Havana, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) Ocean Sur publishing house is launching on Monday the book ”Viengsay Valdes, Soy lo que ves” (Viengsay Valdes, I Am What You See), by photographer Gabriel Davalos, about this Cuban ballet dancer with a recognized international career.
The 26th Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival in Havana will take place from October 28 to November 6, with the participation of artists from more than a dozen countries, and this event is part of its catalog of collateral activities.
The photographic work, carried out in studio, allows to appreciate the Cuban National Ballet prima ballerina in typical classic characters of that company, such as Giselle, Carmen, Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty of the Forest, Sugar Fairy in ‘Cascanueces’ (Nutcracker) and Swanilda in Coppelia.
Her character of Kitry in Don Quixote, and Odette (white swan) and Odile (black swan) in Swan Lake, was also on the list.
Each photo is complemented by a fragment of criticism made to the ballet dancer in any of the scenarios of the five continents where she has danced.
Martha Sanchez, journalist of the Latin American News Agency, Prensa Latina, was in charge of the compilation of criticism, a brief historical presentation of each cited classic ballet and the record of some relevant data of the ballet dancer related to the work.
Davalos, journalist and photographer, has exhibited in Cuba, Spain, the United States, South Korea, Italy, Colombia and the Netherlands.
