Over 80 Countries to Participate in International Health Convention

Cuba’s experiences and successes in the health sector is of extraordinary importance in the world because despite the difficulties inflicted by the US blockade and lack of resources, the island has achieved health indicators comparable with developed nations.

March 14 (Radio Rebelde) The 3rd International Health Convention will be held from April 23rd to the 27th with the participation of over 2 thousand representatives from some 80 countries including Cuba, announced on Tuesday in Havana by the organizing committee.

The Director of the Technological Science and Innovation Center of the Ministry of Public Health and President of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Ileana Morales explained that Cuba Health 2018 will be held at the Convention Center in Havana and will include the 14th Health for All Commercial Fair at Pabexpo Exhibition Center.

Morales added that 56 high level delegations have confirmed for now, of these 44 headed by Ministers from Africa, Latin America, Caribbean, Europe and Asia and these events have become important due to the prestige of the Cuban Public Health system in the world.

The representative in Cuba of the Pan American and World Health Organizations, Cristiam Morales expressed that the Convention is being held 40 years after the Alma-Ata Conference where the principles of the Primary Health Attention was universalized and praised the Cuban system.

Cuba’s experiences and successes in the health sector is of extraordinary importance in the world because despite the difficulties inflicted by the US blockade and lack of resources, the island has achieved health indicators comparable with developed nations.

She stressed that Cuba was the first country to be certified in 2015 for having eliminated the mother child vertical transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis and has currently achieved its recertification for another two years.

The President of the National Council of Scientific Health Societies, Dr. Pastor Castell-Florit Serrate expressed that several events will be held within the Convention, among them a congress on Hygiene and Epidemiology and Informatics.

Different workshops will also be held and others that will be of interests are the Organization, Quality and Efficiency in Systems and Health Services because these corresponds with the transformation process of the sector and many foreigners have requested their participation to learn about the Cuban experience in the field, he said.

Cuba Health 2018 includes 18 symposiums, 63 panels, 25 round tables, other 40 conferences and different meetings, said Castell-Florit Serrate also Director of the National School of Public Health.

The majority of the representatives to the event are from Brazil, Colombia and the United States, said Dr. Castell-Florit.

Some of the issues to be discussed will be health in the population, transmittable and non-transmittable diseases, primary attention and family medicine, education, informatics, climate change and disasters, health economy and economic efficiency and international medical cooperation among others.
