Cuban Supreme Court Judge Stresses Unity of Cuban People

Havana, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) The president of the People’s Supreme Court of Cuba, Ruben Remigio Ferro, stressed today the unity of the Caribbean island’s people around the direction of the country.

We are witnessing a historic moment in which the indestructible conviction to build a socialist society is reaffirmed,Ferro told Prensa Latina within the context of the constitution session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly of Popular Power.

This gives great confidence to our people, assurance that the continuity of the revolutionary process will be materialized, Ferro said.

We are talking about preserving the legacy of all those who preceded us and fought so hard for an independent, sovereign and socialist country, the supreme judge said.

These are new times, but of continuity, and this is validated once again because the Cuban institutionality is strengthened, he said.

Our process demonstrates a very high expression of democracy because the popular will in the constitution of the assembly is defined, as the maximum entity of the people and the consequent election of the state and government management bodies, Ferro argued.

Ferro said these statements at the Conference Center in Havana where the constituent session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power is held. It elects the president of the country and other members of the Council of State.

Miguel Diaz-Canel was proposed yesterday as a president of the Council of State and Salvador Valdés as a First Vice President.

Lawmakers elected Esteban Lazo as president of the Parliament for a five-year term, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution in force in Cuba since 1976.
