United Nations, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Ana Silvia Rodriguez highlighted the importance of strengthening the accountability of the General Assembly and reiterated the support of her delegation in this task.

“Such actions, along with transparency and protection to the institutional memory of the General Assembly, the largest UN organization, are the main cornerstones for the success of the work of its president Miroslav Lajcak,” she said.

Rodriguez also reiterated the importance of keeping all the relevant information issued by Lajcak updated and accessible to the member States.

“The openness in his management, while representing a way of accountability, is a contribution to achieving the goals of the United Nations and reaffirms its commitment to the principles established by the UN Charter,” she added.

In that regard, Rodriguez praised the communiques issued by Lajcak and the summaries of the meetings held with the presidency of the Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council.

She also praised the work done in the systematic updating of the General Assembly’s websites, on which all the documents issued during his management are posted, such as speeches, meetings and events.

Rodriguez said that the work of the incoming President of the General Assembly would be less effective if he did not have that background to perform his duties.

For this reason, she welcomed the report to take over the position, which has been developed in recent years, “we hope this action continues in the future.”

A meeting on Strengthening Accountability, Transparency and Institutional Memory of the Office of the President of the General Assembly is being held today.
