Cuba a Safe and Peaceful Country, Foreign Students Say

Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Young people from 21 countries studying at Cuban universities confirmed the island is a safe and peaceful country, in a statement released today in this capital.

‘We affirm that Cuba as a safe, peaceful and healthy country for Cubans, for foreigners, for accredited diplomats and for the millions of people who visit it every year, including Americans,’ states the text published by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples.

The 80 members of the 10th Contingent of the International Student Solidarity Brigade established their position against the campaigns aimed at affecting the image of Cuba, actions which have their origin mainly in the United States.

Washington accuses Cuba of sonic attacks which have caused health problems for more than 20 US officials at the embassy in Havana, but without presenting any evidence.

The foreign students also expressed their condemnation of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island for nearly six decades, and demanded the return of the territory occupied by the illegal U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay.

They also demanded an end to subversive radio and television broadcasts from the northern country, and pledged ‘to continue to spread the reality of Cuba through social media to counteract the actions against its people.

The 10th Contingent of the International Student Solidarity Brigade ended on Wednesday a week of varied activities at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, located in Caimito, in the western province of Artemisa.
