Business Fair in Cuba Begins with a Broad Business Presence

Havana, May 7 (Prensa Latina) The major players of the Cuban economy are meeting today at the 5th Business Fair, a stage where new forms of management, cooperatives, self-employed workers and foreign representations based in the country will converge.

Among other goals, organizers want the meeting to strengthen capacity of the national industry to meet the island’s demands particularly efforts geared to substitute imports, expand industrial capacities, labor force and savings.

One of the new features of the exhibition -scheduled until May 23 at EXPOCUBA fairgrounds- will be to promote interaction with universities.

Rene Hernandez, first deputy minister of Economy and Planning (MEP), said during a news conference that the main hall gathers the enterprises dedicated to light and military industry, as well as non-agricultural cooperatives, associated to these sectors.

Hernandez stated that the fair is a place to show the potential of state companies, joint ventures and partnerships, cooperatives and self-employed workers to advance towards meeting the demands of goods and services, and in preparation of the 2019 budget.
