Venezuelan Party Celebrates Diplomatic Victory At OAS

Caracas, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) The national secretary of the Venezuelan Popular Unity Party (UPV), Carmelo González, described as a victory the fail of the recent attempts of aggression carried out by the Organization of American States (OAS).

Last week, the U.S. government promoted a resolution at the OAS General Assembly to suspend the South American nation from the organization, despite the fact that Caracas authorities already expressed their willingness to withdraw from the mechanism in April 2017.

In the end, the initiative promoted by Washington and its allies in the region received only 19 of the 24 votes needed for its approval, even under pressure by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.

González pointed out that Venezuela’s course goes through national dignity, peace, and prosperity while emphasizing the importance of popular participation to achieve those goals.
