Venezuela Wants to Develop Peaceful Nuclear Applications

Caracas, Dec 1 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela is committed to developing technologies related to nuclear applications for peaceful ends, said Ambassador Jesse Chacon, representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the United Nations (UN).

As part of the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology held at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria; ministers and high-ranking representatives from member states attend the forum to discuss technical cooperation programs on nuclear advances, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry reported on Twitter.

The diplomat, permanent representative of Venezuela before international organizations, reaffirmed that his country is ‘unquestionably pacifist, attached to the defense of general, complete and non-discriminatory disarmament, and supports the principles, rules, spirit, and work of the multilateral atomic energy agency.’

Chacon also stated that the Venezuelan Government supports and recognizes the task assumed by IAEA to promote the development of nuclear technology, and highlights the importance of facilitating its transfer to developing countries.

He stressed that the agency’s projects benefit national progress in areas related to human health, agriculture, food, and the environment; ‘all with the aim of improving the quality of life of citizens,’ the ambassador stressed.
