Venezuela Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Mission Miracle

Caracas, Jul 8 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela is celebrating on Monday the 15th anniversary of Mission Miracle, promoted by Commanders Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro to improve people’s vision, President Nicolas Maduro said.

On his Twitter account, the Venezuelan head of State noted that those projects are only possible in Revolution, to attend to the most needed populations.

‘We are celebrating 15 years of Operation Miracle! A program created by the giants Fidel and Chavez, which has taken its humanitarian hand to every corner of the Homeland and out of our borders, providing visual health care to the most needed, works that are only possible in Revolution,’ Maduro twitted.

As part of the integration program for Latin America and the Caribbean, the mission was established in 2004 to help low-income people to improve or recover their sight by providing free surgeries and lenses.

On July 8, 2004, the first flight arrived in Cuba carrying 50 Venezuelan patients who underwent surgery against cataract. In the next few months, the same process benefited 176,000 patients.

Statistics published on the website of the Cuban Embassy in Caracas show that in late 2018, the members of the Barrio Adentro Mission attended to more than 117 million patients, performed 193 surgeries and saved 5,300 lives of Venezuelan patients.
