Raul Castro expressed solidarity with Syria, a recent victim of a new attack by the United States.
Havana, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) In his closing speech at the constituent session of the 9th Legislature of the Cuban Parliament, Raul Castro expressed solidarity with Syria, a recent victim of a new attack by the United States.
Raul Castro denounced the attack, perpetrated with the groundless pretext of chemical weapons allegedly used by the Syrian Government in the fight against terrorism fostered from abroad.
‘Regrettably, these unilateral actions have become an unacceptable practice, which has been tried out in several countries in the Middle East’, Raul Castro noted.
Raul Castro also expressed Cuba’s support for former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who has been in prison in his country.
Raul Castro described Lula’s imprisonment as unjust, and a measure that he linked with the effort to prevent him from running in the upcoming elections in Brazil, where he leads people’s voting intention.
In that regard, Raul Castro referred to the coup d’état in Brazil against President Dilma Rousseff, a supporter of Lula da Silva’s policies.
Regarding Lula’s situation, Raul Castro also denounced the crusade staged by U.S. imperialism against progressive processes in Latin America that have reached social achievements.
Raul Castro expressed Cuba’s solidarity with countries subjected to those attacks, which seek to reverse processes of change, such as in Venezuela and Bolivia.
In today’s session, Miguel Diaz-Canel was elected the president of the Councils of State and of Ministers, while Raul Castro said that in his case, he will continue as the first secretary of the Communist Party until 2021, for which he was ratified in 2016 during the 7th PCC Congress.
