Havana, Jan 15 (Prensa Latina) A group of renowned artists of urban rhythms such as Jamaican rapper Sean Paul and the Brazilian Carlinhos Brown get ready to participate in the Musicabana International Festival, its organizers declared today. Through its official website on social networks it is announced the first edition of this event, from May 5 to 8, which seeks to bring together in Havana the most diverse musical genres.
The advisory board of the event – the first coordinated between musicians from Cuba and the United States over the last 30 years- is composed of Pablo Milanés, Jesús ‘Chucho’ Valdes, Joaquin Sabina, Carlinhos Brown and Chris Wangro, among others.
Also, its first edition will be dedicated to the deceased musician Juan Formell, creator of the legendary Cuban band Los Van Van.
So far are confirmed more than twenty foreign musicians, while from this island will be enshrined artists as Milanés, Carlos Varela, Los Van Van, the orchestra Aragón and Juana Bacallao, and other younger as Kelvis Ochoa, Alexander Abreu and Havana De Primera, among other participants.
As a prelude, on March 6, the famous DJ Diplo and his electro house band Major Lazer will offer a concert at the Jose Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune, a space that will host the event alongside the Salón Rosado de la Tropical and the Plaza San Francisco de Asís .
Diplo and his group will be the first American artists to hold a large-scale show in Havana, according to the event coordinators.
