Lao Parliament Speaker Describes Cuban President’s Visit as Important

Vientiane, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) The speaker of the National Assembly of Laos, Pany Yathotou, on Sunday described Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel”s official visit to this Asian nation as very important.

At a meeting with Diaz-Canel, Yathotou said that his presence in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (LPDR), although brief, will give an appreciable boost to the ties of cooperation and friendship between the two governments and peoples.

Diaz-Canel, in turn, praised the level the bilateral relations and shared with Yathotou the willingness to take them to higher levels.

Shortly before, the Cuban president held official talks with his counterpart, Bounnhang Vorachith, who is also the secretary general of the Laos People’s Revolutionary Party, and witnessed the signing of two agreements that will reinvigorate bilateral relations.

One of them was a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education and Sports of the LPDR and the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Culture and Recreation (INDER).

Also on the list was a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the LPDR Bank and the Central Bank of Cuba.

Diaz-Canel also had a cordial meeting with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

This is the first visit to Laos by a president of the Cuban Councils of State and of Ministers, and the second visit paid by Diaz-Canel, whose first visit was as Cuba’s vice president in June 2013.
