Havana, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) International organizations with representations in Cuba have demanded the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.
At the 15th Cuban Civil Society Forum against the blockade, the representative of the Solidarity Organization of the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America, Alex Sosa, expressed that the genocidal measures constitute a violation of human rights and damage cooperative relations between countries.
The secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions for America, Ernesto Freire, also rejected the blockade, particularly its impact on the emerging Cuban private sector.
There are many difficulties this sector is facing in Cuba, for example the creation of wholesale markets to supply the necessary raw materials, he said at the Raul Roa Garcia International Relations Institute in the capital, where more than 130 bodies participated.
On the other hand, Alina Fernandez, an official of the Cuban Movement for Peace, stressed the support to the Cuban cause, since Washington’s sanctions go against the Proclamation of Latin America as a Peace Zone, agreed in 2014 in Havana, at the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
Peace is a right of Cubans and all peoples of the world, the blockade imposed on Cuba almost 60 years ago and the illegal occupation of part of our territory in Guantanamo (in the east of the country) go against it, stressed Fernandez.
For the past three years, 191 out of 193 UN member states have supported the resolution, a text which year after year ratifies the White House’s isolation regarding anti-Cuban sanctions.
