Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and solidarity organizations today recalled the 20th anniversary of the unjust incarceration of five Cuban anti-terrorists in the United States.
At the event, the Vice President of ICAP, Jose Prieto, highlighted the role of the Revolution, the Cuban people and the record of more than 2,000 organizations in 154 countries, in the fight for the return of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez.
‘Twenty years have passed since that unjust condemnation, and now the five of us are inserted in everyday life, because 20 years after the arrest, we continue being soldiers of Fidel Castro, of the Cuban people and we will never betray him,’ said Hernandez, who along with his companions received the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
The event at the ICAP headquarters was attended by the Cuban intellectual Ricardo Alarcon, who recounted passages from the life of the anti-terrorists when they were imprisoned.
‘There was no alternative of the U.S. government for the liberation of The Five, as they were known internationally, it was not a gift or any concession, it was a constant and victorious battle of an entire people and family,’ said Alarcon.
