Addis Ababa, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) The Ethiopian Herald highlighted the friendship and cooperation Cuba and Ethiopia currently maintain, with the purpose of celebrating in July the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The contribution of Cuban combatants in the Ogaden War (1977-1978), settled with a victory that safeguarded the territorial integrity and independence of the African state, was highlighted in the publication’s printed edition.
The article entitled ‘The special Ethio-Cuban ties’ particularly highlights the sacrifice during the conflict of 163 Cubans who died in combat, whose legacy transcends time.
The document also underlines the importance of the collaboration of hundreds of Cuban doctors, teachers, technicians, and specialists, who have helped Ethiopia’s social and economic growth since the war ended.
The text also refers to statements by Abebe Ayalew, President of the Cuba-Ethiopia Friendship Association, who considers that the appreciation between the two countries is based on a blood pact.
Ayalew thanked Cuba for training, through scholarships, more than 5,000 Ethiopian students, who now contribute to the development of their nation in agriculture, education, medicine and other sectors.
