Ernest Hemingway Billfishing Tournament Begins in Cuba

Havana, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The 64th edition of the International Ernest Hemingway Billfishing Tournament began in this capital today with the meeting of participants at the marina that bears the name of the famous American novelist. Practically a myth, not only in terms of sports but also for Cuban tourism, this contest has a long history that even includes the presence at its beginning of the author of The Old Man and the Sea.

The contest, sponsored by the Marlin SA Nautical and Marine business group at the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), will run on June 9-14, in which 18 vessels from France, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latvia, England, and Cuba will participate, an increase over 2013.

This is a fishing contest of very special characteristics, because it adopts the rules of the International Federation of Sports Fishing, which described the Hemingway tournament as a competition that is headed for the international sports-fishing circuit.
