Cuban Music Aspires to 2019 Grammy Awards

Los Angeles, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban music has an important presence on the list of nominees for the 2019 Grammy Awards that the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States announced on Friday.

In Cuba, Los Van Van orchestra with the album Legado (Egrem, 2017) aspires to the golden gramophone in the Best Tropical Album category. In the record, Los Van Van pay tribute to the band’s founder, Juan Formell.

Also on the list is the group Orishas, which is competing its album Gourmet (Sony Music Latin, 2018) in the Best Latin, Urban or Alternative Rock Album section.

In jazz, one of the genres in which Cuban musicians have had greater representation in the history of the Grammy, the candidates to the coveted award is the pianist Elio Villafranca, with the CD Cinque (ArtistShare, 2018); and the drummer Dafnis Prieto, with Back to the Sunset Dafnison Music, 2018).

The award ceremony for the 61st edition of the Grammy Award will take plac on February 10, 2019, in Los Angeles.
