Cuban, Foreign Cooks Celebrate with People Havana’s 495 Anniversary

lo_cubano[1]A singular meeting of experts and citizens from Havana is taking place since today at Old Havana under the slogan “Saborear lo cubano” (Savoring the Cuban Style), to celebrate the 495 years of this city.Curious celebrations are joining to this anniversary of the Cuban capital, giving brightness and color to a leading city for history, culture and tourism.

Among those programs are a meeting of experts in culinary, now doomed to bring the Cuban recipe, very laden with fat and sugar, to international trends, hence the “Saborear lo cubano” event will be on November 12-15.

This meeting brings together well known experts in local cuisine along with foreign guests, and is characterized by the variety of locations taken as a good range of restaurants and bars in Old Havana, a 2,2-square-kilometer area with lots of color.

That meeting has a variety of issues and tastings, since a beginning at the Ambos Mundos Hotel with a lecture by Havana Historian Eusebio Leal, main animator of the city’s restoration and a great expert on this country’s traditions.

Leal, director of the Office of the Historian of Havana, encourages among chefs, bartenders and other specialists to recover ancient formulas of the island’s gastronomy, while experts provide him inclinations for human health to those ideas.

The program, combining the Cuban style and foreign influence, includes keynote speeches and workshops organized by restaurants in dependence of their culinary specialties with a massive end at the beautiful Plaza Vieja.
