The competition will include a day off and it is seen as a way to help Cuban cyclists be in shape while waiting for the reappearance of the international Cycling Tour of Cuba.

Cuban national commissioner Pablo Arturo Campins assured to sports news website Jit that besides the members of the national pre-team, other cyclists from provincial teams who are giving the last touches to their training in their territories will be making up the group of riders.

Teams from Holland, Canada and Ethiopia also expressed interest to take part in the competition.

The route for the 5th National Cycling Classic includes a climb to La Farola Hill, in Guantanamo, La Gran Piedra in Santiago de Cuba and Topes de Collantes in the area of Sancti Spiritus, as well as several intermediate sprints and time trials, individual and by teams.

The National Cycling Classics of Cuba was first staged in 2014, to fill the gap that left the Cycling Tour of Cuba, in which local rider Eduardo Alonso was the great champion by winning in 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990.
