Cuba Reiterates Commitment to Development in Health Coverage Day

Havana, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) Health Minister Jose Angel Portal on Wednesday stressed Cuba”s commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, on occasion of the Universal Health Coverage Day, commemorated each December 12.

After reiterating Cuba’s responsibility with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Portal posted on Twitter that Cuba will continue its unstoppable course in strengthening its health system.

The Universal Health Coverage Day is a global warning facing the first unanimous UN resolution, which urges countries to provide affordable and quality medical care to all people and everywhere.

On occasion of the date, World Health Organization director general Tedros Adhanom stated that ‘Health for all’ should be the center of gravity of the efforts to achieving SDGs, because when people are healthy, their families, communities and countries benefit.

We still have a long way to go. About 400 million people do not have access to essential health services, he warned.

Infomed website posted that a community or a country can achieve universal health coverage when there is a solid health system and funding of their services, as well as access to medicines, essential technologies and their staff is well trained.
