Beijing, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) China confirmed on Thursday its invariable friendly relations with Cuba, regardless of the changing situation on the international arena, and that the two States will continue in close coordination on matters of mutual interest.
The director-general for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhao Bentang, told journalists that China will always support the just causes of the Caribbean island and will work together to improve the socialist model in their countries. He added that at their meeting on Thursday, Presidents Xi Jinping and Miguel Diaz-Canel emphasized the uninterrupted progress of ties after 58 years, agreed to give them more impetus and consolidate them in the current circumstances.
‘The agreements show that we are good friends, brothers and colleagues (…) that we will maintain close coordination on international issues to defend together the interests of developing countries,’ Zhao pointed out.
According to the official, both leaders talked about the great diversity that exist in areas such as trade, energy, agriculture, tourism and biotechnology.
They also referred to the results achieved in recent years thanks to cooperation with shared benefit.
Xi welcomed Diaz Canel with high honors at the Great Hall f the People before holding formal talks and a welcome dinner.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of several agreements aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, including one to expand exchanges as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, which seeks to connect China with countries in all continents on a major infrastructure platform, as well as boost the movements of goods, capital, services and personnel.
